How I Doubled My Instagram Followers and Profile Visits in Three Days

Since I’ve really started getting into the blogging community, I’ve noticed that a lot of people, bloggers included, have a beef with Instagram.

Some people are frustrated with their algorithm, others with how some people are using services to buy followers. Most people seem to hate the follow, unfollow game. In any case, there seems to be a lot of frustration about using the platform and actually growing your account without going crazy.

Before I started my little experiment, I had about 600 followers on Insta and less than 100 profile visits, after updating to a business profile (which I totally recommend for analytics!)

After three days of trying this new strategy, I now have nearly 1,200 followers and more than 700 profile visits. That amounts to nearly doubling my followers and septupling my profile visits in just three days. I know that might not seem like a lot to people touting 20K followers, but to me, that is huge growth.

How I Did It

First, I want to be clear that my strategy did not include any sort of following and unfollowing. The number of people I follow grew a lot and yes, I now follow more people than follow me back…but I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all because I’m following people I actually want to follow.

Basically, I started following people/bloggers that other bloggers I admire are following. That’s it.

I made a short list of bloggers I look up to and then looked at the people that they were following on Instagram. This helped me find a ton of amazing bloggers that I wouldn’t have found by myself just through searching. I also didn’t limit myself to just bloggers or a certain niche. I like to cover a wide variety of topics on my blog, including blogging tips, culture, and book reviews. So, I really looked to follow a variety of people from that list, including book bloggers, booktubers, authors, and even some people who just like to read.

Like I said, I ended up following a lot of people so it is essential to make sure you will actually enjoy somebody’s content. Now, let’s get to the fun part: the results!

What Happened

Of course, a ton of people followed me back, because they saw that I have similar interests to them and I have a blog like them, as well. People are more likely to follow people who share their interests. Besides follows, I also received more likes and engaging comments on my most recent posts. I even received quite a few messages and message requests. A pleasant surprise I wasn’t expecting is that even three days after putting a brake on things, I still continue to get a fair amount of followers every day organically. I’m not sure if this is the algorithm or what, but more people are managing to find me now. Lastly, I have seen a small jump in visits to my blog the last few days, because people viewing my Insta profile are checking out Stumbly! How cool!

I think the best thing about this strategy is that it is a legit way to grow your following while still remaining true to your target audience. The goal isn’t to double your followers by following random people, it’s to find new people who share your interests and might be interested in your blog.

This strategy might not be for everybody, but it certainly worked for me. Imagine if you did this every day, how much your account would grow! However, it does take up a lot of time so that’s something to consider.

Let me know if you try my strategy out and if it works for you! I’d love to hear how it goes for other bloggers. xx

Awesome! And yes, it seems like common sense to follow people in your niche but it’s successful when you put it into an action plan.

This is excellent advice! What do you do after a few weeks for the people that don’t follow back if you don’t mind me asking?

If they don’t follow back, that’s fine, it’s their choice. I don’t unfollow them just for that. But I was surprised to find that most people do end up following back over time because they see I’m doing similar things to them.

I have to admit I don’t use Instagram all that much because of the algorithms and I’ve only recently gained more followers from joining a blogging group. I feel like a lot of people, myself included, are guilty of not searching for accounts to follow on Instagram, although, for me, it’s because I don’t use it often. I get more from other social media accounts so I tend to focus on them instead. I’ll have to give this strategy a go and see how I get on – you can’t go wrong by following people of a similar/same niche as you. Great post – thanks for sharing!

Glad you enjoyed it! And I know what you mean, I get a lot more engagement on Twitter than Instagram usually.

great post! I’ve been struggling with Instagram for a bit because it’s seems I win 10 followers to lose 15 right after, so I’ll definitely try this strategy. I also agree that following more people thank your number of followers is not a bad thing

Thanks for reading, glad you liked it! I have noticed that a few people drop off after a few days but no biggie. I’m aiming for the long game in the end you know? It’s all about connecting with people:)

Great post and tq for sharing! I used to love Instagram! It’s easier to get followers there than anywhere else! But I decided to quit because it took too much of my time. Now I just focus on reading and blogging.. It makes me enjoy reading and reviewing even more 🙂 but it definitely hurt my followers count 🙁 anw, following your lovely blog! Hope to see you on mine too! It’s hookedonbookzblog.wordpress.com It desperately needs some ❤️😅

Thanks for following, I’ll check your blog out! Sometimes I wish I could quit Insta too. I used to love it for photography but it’s become a bit of a hot mess since then so I totally get where you’re coming from.
