My Favorite Books of All Time

Because asking me to choose just one favorite book is impossible.

This week, I just wanted to do something fun and easy, so I’m sharing my top four favorite books ever.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

jane-eyre-umberI first read Jane Eyre at the start of high school, after a failed attempt at Pride and Prejudice (another fantastic classic, once you get the hang of the language.) I don’t know why, but something about Jane Eyre’s story drew me in. I love how she’s a bit cheeky and not afraid to stick up to Mr. Rochester. A woman ahead of her time, Bronte writes in a way that is really relatable to even modern women. Mystery, dark romance, coming of age…this book has it all.

Memoirs of a Geisha by

220px-MemoirsOfAGeishaWhile the movie is also pretty great, the book takes you even deeper into the world of geishas and Chiyo’s story. Many people are surprised to hear this is one of my favorite novels because the story has themes of war, violence, prostitution, and manipulation. However, it’s also a story of beauty, perseverance of the spirit, and love. It takes you to a different world and gives you a fictional glimpse into the life of a celebrated geisha. Also, there are a lot of parallels between this story and the plot of Jane Eyre so that’s probably another strong reason why I like it so much.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

512BDEpgIXvL._SX327_BO1204203200_Lately, I haven’t been a huge fan of the direction Maas is taking this series, but I can’t deny that the first book introduced something great. I loved the story and how the book pushed YA a little and showed what New Adult is. Anything a bit paranormal with magic and romance usually pulls me in, and this did the trick. Without saying any spoilers, I think this book really sets the stage for crazier events in the series. However, as I mentioned, I don’t really like the direction Maas took in the latest book. If you’re interested to read more about my opinion on ACOFAS, the post is here.

Dark Fever by Karen Marie Moning

51sDrluyjRL._SX305_BO1204203200_Back in high school, I stumbled upon Moning’s Highlander series in the romance section of the public library. I probably was too young to read that kind of romance just yet, but then, I was reading a lot of adult books before being an actual adult, so whoops. I must have been hooked because that summer, I read her entire Highlander series and started in on her new Fever series, which follows the story of a girl who travels to Ireland to find her missing sister, and along the way discovers her past is more intricate than she could have imagined. While I love the entire story of MacKayla Lane and other characters in the stories, there was something so special about Dark Fever, the first book in the series. It really introduces a new world to you and to me, it was a new form of fiction I hadn’t read before. Be warned that the romances involved are often the slow-burn type (but so worth it!!), and the plot can get quite dark at times. But anybody who loves paranormal stuff needs to check this book out!

Have you read any of these books? What are your favorites? I’m always looking for good recs so please share!
